Job Description

Job Summary:

The Art Director is responsible for generating and developing clear ideas and concepts, to translate marketing and business strategies into impactful campaigns that stimulate targeted audiences and achieves our life science client’s communication objectives. The candidate for this position must have a compelling portfolio that demonstrates conceptual thinking, strong design skills and visual communication solutions across digital and print platforms. They will be creating materials for audiences that include HCPs, health systems, patients, caregivers, and advocates. They will be responsible for art direction from the start of projects to the delivery. Working knowledge of UX is highly recommended.

Duties / Responsibilities

  • Report to the Associate Creative Director (Art/UX) and keep them updated on the management of the workload
  • Originate fresh, innovative concepts and transform them into effective design across multiple platforms and campaigns including print, presentation decks, websites, and other digital tactics
  • Demonstrates a proven understanding of layout, type and color in both digital and print design—be a strong advocate of the protocols of design consistency, and design principles
  • Deliver high quality design work while meeting deadlines and staying on budget, and on brief
  • Collaborate with copywriters to create visual solutions to achieve communication and strategic objectives
  • Manage brands through their lifecycle, including launch. Develop designs consistent with brand guidelines, messaging, tone, and voice
  • Present work to clients with confidence and thoughtful rationale, along with copy partners and UX specialists, as the creative subject matter experts on the team; clearly articulate design decisions that are backed up with strategic supporting evidence and insight
  • Flex across multiple clients and adapt to an ever-changing workflow
  • Consult on web usability & user experience best practices, in partnership with UX/UI specialists
  • Participate in discovery and design gap analysis
  • Create prototypes & mockups to illustrate the project’s concept and requirements

 

 Skills / Qualifications:

  • Excellent design and conceptual skills, demonstrated through a compelling, proven portfolio of work (containing web design, digital advertising, user experience, including responsive design across platforms; can translate strategy into design across web, mobile, video and print)
  • Proven knowledge of web usability & user experience best practices, digital best practices, techniques, and tools, with a strong comprehension of how content and functionality work together, including a working understanding of IA & UI prototyping
  • Understanding of the capabilities and limitations of web design, including knowledge of appropriate file formats, resolution, compression, and style guides
  • Mastery of appropriate design techniques and disciplines (digital, interactive, graphic, iconography, data visualization, typography, grid systems, visual hierarchy, color theory and systems, and composition)
  • Knows how to adhere to brand identity and brand style guides
  • Possesses strong verbal communication and presentation skills, able to articulate ideas in a clear manner and accept directional feedback
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Cloud (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, XD etc.), Sketch and Microsoft Office
  • Demonstrates multi-tasking skills and ability adapt to shifting priorities and tight turnarounds
  • Able to create time estimates for work on each project
  • Operates as a team player but can also manage projects on your own
  • Demonstrates interpersonal skills; works well within a team environment

 

Education / Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, in design or related area of study
  • At least 3-6 years of experience as an art director within a fast-paced
    pharmaceutical marketing agency environment
  • Social media marketing, photography/video/editing, UX/UI design experience a plus
  • Experience working in the Substance Use Disorder category also a plus
